Graphics, Audio, UI And Creating A Build For Testing
Graphics
Up till now, the game has looked quite functional but with little to no embellishments like graphics or sound added to it. Barrel flares for when the turrets file their respective projectiles were added to make the turrets seem more active as they operated. An explosion for when a Tachobyte (enemy) is destroyed were also added but with collider particles so the explosion fragments bounce off the colliders on the canyon walls of the enemy game path. An example of the turrets flare effects and the enemy explosions is below.
Audio
Adding audio to the game made a huge difference in the feeling when playing it. Adding various sound effects to the turrets when they shoot give them depth and a sense of reality for the player. Two separate soundtracks (made by respectively Alexandr Zhelanov and yd) were also added for the title and main game scene. These tracks were chosen for their style and how they set a different feeling for the game. The title soundtrack is an exiting battle theme which is designed to create excitement about the action of the game. The soundtrack to the main game screen however has a more mellow and repetitive tone to set a pace to the game that is not to slow or fast. These soundtracks and effects add depth to the game and immerse the player in the game world.
There is an opportunity to add a sound effect to when a turrets projectile hit an enemy but I have yet to find the right sound effect for it. It would have to be a small sound which doesn’t overwhelm other sounds of the game.
Upgrades to the previous versions of the game include the polishing of the money system where turrets take money when purchased and enemies give money when destroyed by the turrets.
UI Upgrade
All the UI in the game (apart from the end-of-game scenes) are seen in the gif below. A silver-grey colour and dark grey borders were choses for the “ok” contrast to the game world. It also gives a clean look to the game making the information shown in the UI very clear. The text has a high-tech look which lends to the story of a post-apocalyptic world which still uses operation high-tech turrets for defence.
A Build Made For Testing
This is a small sample of the build that has been uploaded for now in order for the game to be tested. It has a few empty places like a selected turret’s specifications below the menu button. More round can be implemented for future versions as well rounds containing faster or stronger enemies.
